01

Naturally & Sustainably Grown

Thanks to the aquaponic system, the salads grow without chemical fertilizers or pesticides, are produced CO₂‑free, and use up to 90 % less water.

02

Nutrient‑Rich & Flavor‑Intense

Natural fertilization from fish farming ensures optimal nutrient supply, which intensifies flavor and enhances quality.

03

Fresh & Long‑Lasting

By harvesting the plants with their roots intact, the salads stay fresh and nutrient‑rich for longer, while regional production avoids long transport routes.

“Winter Basil” Research Project

Within the “Winter Basil” research project, SOLOS aims to grow basil sustainably and locally even in winter. Instead of using lots of energy to heat greenhouses, SOLOS uses an aquaponic system that optimally employs the warmth of the water for plant growth.

A thermal foil manages heat radiation to create an ideal micro‑climate, while an airflow system is being tested to regulate humidity and prevent fungal growth. The goal is to develop an environmentally friendly method for winter basil production and to offer fresh, regional herbs in top quality.

The project contributes to sustainable and energy‑efficient agriculture that enables year‑round food production without environmental strain.
